A basic insurance is often included, but it offers only a limited coverage of damage, so several better options are available. LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) or CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) will cover the cost in case of theft or damage, LIS (Liability Insurance Supplement) will cover the cost of any damages or injuries the driver is involved in.

All rental cars in the USA have air conditioning, airbags, a radio or CD/cassette player and an automatic gear. Upgraded cars may also be equipped with cruise control, satellite navigation system. The most popular companies are Hertz, AVIS, FlexCar.
