Los Angeles has advanced system of transportation, being located in the centre of main passenger and cargo routes network. Many of the country’s major highways lead to this city, numerous railway stations serve hundreds of destinations.

The city has very comprehensive and efficient public transport system, extended to the most remote districts of the city. Its layout in itself presupposes complex transport network, for long avenues and spacious districts are definitely not designed for pedestrians.

Metro Rail trains run between Downtown and Long Beach, Union Station and Western Ave, and Norwalk and Redondo Beach. This is a rapid way of traveling around the city, for it helps to avoid sticking in traffic jams, but the structure of its five lines is rather erratic and requires multiple transfers.

The city has four public bus operators: MTA, which goes most places; Culver City Bus, which does Culver City and the Westside; DASH, a minibus system that runs four routes through Downtown; Big Blue Bus, which serves the West LA area.

The bus system is extensive and allows access to almost every location, but it is unreliable for stranger. The buses often get stuck in traffic congestions and change the routes to keep up with the schedule. Also their actual frequency can differ from the denoted, and though the buses run 24 hours, at night their number is sharply reduced.

Taxi is the best way of getting around the city and the most reliable and convenient option for a stranger. Taxis serve airports, train stations, bus stations and major hotels, but in other districts respond rather to calls than to hand waves.

Car is the most suitable means of transportation in Los Angeles, and notwithstanding heavy traffic and congestions the streets are convenient to drive and absolutely navigable, especially with a good map.
