Only the person who rents a car is permitted to drive. If somebody else will be driving this car, it should be mentioned during check-in. Sometimes additional fee for the second driver is charged.

A basic insurance is often included, but it offers only a limited coverage of damage, so several better options are available. LDW (Loss Damage Waiver) or CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) will cover the cost in case of theft or damage, LIS (Liability Insurance Supplement) will cover the cost of any damages or injuries the driver is involved in.

All rental cars in the USA have air conditioning, airbags, a radio or CD/cassette player and an automatic gear. Upgraded cars may also be equipped with cruise control, satellite navigation system. The most popular companies are Hertz, AVIS, FlexCar.
